Other work carried
out included the addition of cedar revetments (the placement of large cedar trees
into the river at wide points) to narrow the channel. These create structures to capture
silt and provide woody debris habitat for the fish. Two large structures were built
on the Wolf property and following the Spring of 2000 they performed perfectly, narrowing
the channel by 3 m. On Black Creek we added seven revetments to Jack Donnelly's section
of river, a slow moving stretch above the Stewarttown Dam. These structures have created
very important woody cover for the brook trout in this area. A major revetment and
log stabilizer was also built below Norval on the Borsma property. 25 large white
pines (35' tall) were placed along the bank to prevent soil erosion and to provide
woody cover for migrating steelhead and juvenile steelhead. The work was a great success
with many fish utilizing the habitat in the Spring and summer of 2000.
Now if you think we
accomplished a lot in 1999, your right! But read the year 2000 update and you may
be surprised to see we more than doubled our work of 1999!
